BHPian KK2001 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I'm the owner of a 2010 Fortuner that's done 95K kilometres, till date.
Since I reside in Bombay, I had sent the car to Madhuban Toyota Kurla back in January of this year for it's 93K kilometres service. My steering used to vibrate violently post 100 km/hr and so upon inspection, it was found out that the LHS inner ball joint has some play, and despite our approval to get it changed, my SA said it'll run for another 5K kilometres and we can get it changed during the 1 lakh kilometre service, to which we obliged.
Fast forward to June, I came back from the UK and took it to my trusted dealer, Millennium Toyota Thane to get the ball joints replaced. Blame it on human error, my SA got the lower arm ball joints changed instead (I still did not realize his mistake at this point).
Two days ago, I got a feedback call from Toyota Kirloskar Motors asking for my feedback on my 93K kilometres service that was done at Madhuban Toyota Kurla and I shared my feedback saying that despite my approval to get the LHS inner ball joint changed, my SA did not change it and from now, please tell Madhuban Toyota to replace a part, especially if the customer has authorized it. On the same day, got a call from the deputy service manager of Madhuban Toyota Kurla, who tells me that Millennium Toyota Thane has changed the wrong spare part. I was in for a rude surprise and decided to escalate an email to TKM, stating their authorized service centre's incompetency.
Madhuban has offered a free inspection of the entire front suspension but my SA at Millennium, who is under scrutiny now, is trying for a free of charge replacement since it was a goof-up on his side.
Here's what BHPian Rehaan had to say on the matter:
How much were you charged, and what's the price difference between the parts?
despite our approval to get it changed, my SA said it'll run for another 5K kilometres and we can get it changed during the 1 lakh kilometre service, to which we obliged.
I find this quite strange.
Did you specify a limited time for the service (ie. say you needed the car back by X day/time)?
Am wondering if the part was not in stock, and they took the easy way out.
This also reminds me of how people are extra-cautious when going in for surgery (or amputations):
I was quoted 10K rupees to change the inner ball joint. And I was charged 8.5K to change the lower arm ball joints. I think Madhuban didn’t have the particular part in stock, which is why they said it could go for more 5K kms.
Either way, the car is going to Madhuban for an inspection on Monday and then to Millennium again next Saturday.
